Apologizing for not writing more often, but noting that "A Friend of so many years, has a Title too good, to stand in need of New Deeds & Writings at every turn." Mentioning that he has been in the company of Lord Bolingbroke for three weeks and praising him; mentioning that his old friend Jervas is to sail to Italy for his asthma; referencing his desire for a quiet life, and hoping the same for Fortescue.
